He Will Render to Each According to Deeds (Romans 2:6) - Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim

The Deeds of the Saved
(Romans 2:6)

“It doesn’t matter whether we sin or do good, because we’re already saved. Judgment has nothing to do with us, so just relax.” Many Christians misunderstand the words, “He who believes in Him is not condemned” (John 3:18), arrogantly assuming that “churchgoers will simply be given a free pass at the judgment seat.”

  1. Those Subject to Judgment
The Day of Wrath will surely come. That day of the Final Judgment will unfold before our eyes with the return of Jesus Christ. It is not only unbelievers who will face that day. The Scriptures state that the ungodly, those who do not obey the Gospel of the Lord Jesus, and those who practice lawlessness are the ones subject to judgment. While people try to distinguish based on whether or not someone attended church, what truly matters is how each person has lived their life.

  2. The Criteria for Judgment
Judgment will be rendered to each person according to their deeds. The Old Testament prophets proclaimed this, and Jesus also said, “He will reward each according to his works.” The Apostle Paul stated: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body…whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). He preached the grace of salvation throughout his life, but he also emphasized that the saved would be judged according to their works.

  3. Godly Works
Salvation is received through faith, but whether one is truly saved is revealed through their works. Many people devalue deeds while emphasizing grace because they confuse the criteria for salvation with the criteria for judgment. Salvation is by grace, but judgment is according to what each person has done. We must emphasize grace so that no one can boast, but we must not ignore God’s will that created us for good works. Our godly works, rooted in a desire for God’s will to be fulfilled, will glorify Him.
