A Life That Leads to Eternal Life
(Romans 2:7)
Many believers tend to think that eternal life is already secured the moment they believe in Jesus, often disregarding the change of life that should naturally follow. However, for a person who is truly saved, their pattern of life is destined to change into a life of doing good.
Three Principles of a Believer’s Life
For a believer who obeys the truth, doing good becomes their pattern of life. When one does good, suffering is inevitable. Nevertheless, true believers regard such hardships as a matter of course and endure them with joy, because they possess three internal principles that safeguard the direction of their lives. They seek not worldly glory but the glory of God; they seek not worldly honor but the honor that comes from God; and they seek not that which perishes, but that which is incorruptible.Characteristics of Life Bestowed upon the Believer
Eternal life is not merely a quantity of time—living for a long duration—but refers to the holy, qualitative aspect of God’s life that has entered our spirits. For one who possesses eternal life to manifest the characteristics of God is a natural expression of the life within them. That life, which has come upon us, constantly induces us to perform good works. To dream of a “sweet” eternal life without such evidence is nothing but a vain delusion. The reality of true faith is revealed through the evidence of one’s life. The Eternal Reality to be Granted to the Believer
God will eventually bestow upon us an eternal dwelling place, so that the divine life we possess may finally meet a concrete reality and location to bloom fully. The moment we receive the Lord, the life of God that enters us leads us to obey and to do good. This is not a command to be kept by force, but the very nature of the redeemed. Although this path is filled with various trials, the Lord does not leave us alone; He guides and protects us until the end. At the conclusion of this journey, God will provide us with the perfect environment of eternal life.
