God’s Rendering (Romans 2:8-10) - Overseer Sung-Hyun Kim

God’s Rendering
(Romans 2:8-10)

God observes, remembers, and records the deeds of every person for the final judgment. Judgment will come to all without exception and will be executed precisely according to the weight of each person’s responsibility. Paul’s declaration, “but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath” (Rom 2:8), shatters our desire to find comfort in our social identity.

1.Those Who Pursue Ambition
Gathering as a group is not a sin in itself. However, it is a different matter entirely when someone shuts their eyes to the truth and gathers people solely for their own interests, shaking the community with false rumors and malicious frames to seize power. The sin of “self-seeking” is rooted not in outward appearance, but in a corrupt heart that opposes the truth and uses unrighteousness as a means to satisfy its own desires.

2.Those Who Follow Unrighteousness
No one declares, “I oppose the truth.” Yet, those who reject the truth eventually live according to the values and ways of the world. Because there is no middle ground in the spiritual realm, such a life slowly but surely tilts toward unrighteousness. The sight of those today who oppose their own shepherd and draw their swords against the church is a raw revelation of where that downward tilt leads.

3.Those Who Do Good
“Tribulation and anguish” are given to those who follow unrighteousness, while “glory, honor, and peace” are granted to those who do good according to the truth. Even believers cannot produce such good deeds on their own. Just as salvation is achieved by grace, a holy life is possible only through the power of the Holy Spirit. To those who lay down the thought of building up their own merit and instead earnestly seek the power to please the Lord, God will surely render glory, honor, and peace.
